Top 10 worst foods for your dog

Human food can be harmful to pets and it is important to be aware of what these are and avoid them at all costs, or incur the vet costs or worse!

 

1 - Our beloved Chocolate :-( 

Chocolate contains a chemical similar to caffeine which dogs do not tolerate well. Dark chocolate is the worst offender and can cause agitation, tremors, convulsions and issues with the heart.

2 - Caffeine

Might seem obvious from above but be careful where you leave you coffee cups as snoopy pets can get curious about this sometime sweet tasting liquid!

3 - Alcohol

Might seem obvious and I know some people joke about their dogs drinking but make sure they don't actually take a lick as alcohol can cause low blood sugar, drowsiness and a case of the wobblies - much like it does for humans!

4 - Onions and garlic

Even cooked within an inch of its life, these tasty plants can be toxic to our furry friends - typically visible through vomiting, diarrhea, and even more severely causing anaemia which wont show immediately.

5 - Nuts

Macadamia nuts specifically can cause lethargy, increased body temperature, stiffness and limpness.

6 - Salt

Thirst, lethargy, vomiting and more severely coma, kidney failure and convulsions.

7 - Grapes

Along with the dried versions of this fruit, grapes can cause sever kidney failure even when ingested in small amounts.

8 - Bread Dough

Because of its uncooked nature, dough can cause a swelling in the abdomen, obstruction of the gut and vomiting.

9 - Fake Sweeteners

Xylitol and other sugar replacements can cause low blood sugar and liver damage.

10 - Moldy Food

If you wont eat it, don't feed it to your dog! High body temps, vomiting, convulsions and tremors can be a result of eating highly toxic moldy food stuffs.
